OHSU IDS Grant $220,000 - June 2024

Report

Gateway Doula Group has achieved significant milestones with the OHSU IDS Grant, demonstrating both innovation and community-centered impact. Beginning their recruitment efforts in June 2024, they successfully launched a Doula Scholarship Program and established key partnerships that expanded their reach across diverse populations, particularly through a strategic collaboration with the Asian Pacific American Network of Oregon (APANO)—the largest organization serving API communities in the city—which created pathways for community members to become certified doulas. Beyond recruitment, the group successfully integrated doula services into OHSU's healthcare system by launching the OHSU Birth Doula On-Call Program and offering doula resources at new patient obstetric visits. Additionally, they expanded their support services to address previously underserved populations by offering doula care to people experiencing pregnancy loss. Their collaborative efforts, which included partnerships with Mother Tree International, Attune Births (for doula video content), and the Oregon Health Authority, demonstrate their commitment to culturally-specific outreach and advancing doula accessibility for rural and indigenous communities.

Legislative Actions:

Gateway Doulas are  strong advocates for doula care and maternal health and work tirelessly  to amplify the work of Black Futures For Perinatal Health   and the Children’s Institute  under Senator Lisa Reynolds sponsorship of the MOMNIBUS. Gateway doulas were instrumental in catching legislators attention during a particularly gruesome budget year with a successful pass to SB692 - an expansion to doula care including postpartum and lactation consultant support.
