Doula FAQ

Can I have a back-up doula as a part of my business plan when interviewing New Gateway Leads?

Yes! That is a great option to have. Make sure to be clear with who you are interviewing about your time commitments and on-call schedule. Introduce your business partner to potential clients if applicable.

I need help finding clients!

1. New Lead - Student/Pro-bono emails will come to your inbox. More New Leads are available to you once you join the Billing Hub. You will have the opportunity to interview clients who come through the Gateway Doula Group website if you reply back to the New Lead emails.

- We try our best to keep this equitable among respondents, but it helps if you reply back sooner rather than later to get assigned to the interview.

- Fill out the Gateway Birth Log after every Gateway Birth Lead

2. Other options include signing up for

- OHSU Back-Up shifts (priority goes to new doulas working toward state certification)

- Or Adventist On-Call Shifts (open to anyone)

3. Fill out the Gateway Birth Log after every Gateway Birth Lead

NEW! The third option includes applying to Scheduled Shift Work. This is a rolling, open application for shift or teams-based model work.

- This is a great option if you are interested in more regular scheduling or looking to connect as a team with other doulas in your community.

- As opportunities arise, we will be in contact with you about your SUBMITTED application.

Where do I find community and support from other doulas?

Every Tuesday at 12 is our Doula Mentor Hour! You can also use the GroupMe app to join our On-call and General group chats. Download the app and login using your email address.

I haven’t received my Gateway Member Badge yet. How do I get one?

If you are a new member, your badge is likely going to be ordered in the next monthly batch. If you still haven’t received your badge, please verify your correct address and provide a clear photo of your face emailed to [email protected].

How long do I have to renew my Traditional Health Worker #?

You have 3 years to renew your THW#. You can start your recertification process 90 days before it expires. You need 20 continuing education credit hours (CEUs) to renew your #. See more details about the requirements here.

Does Gateway have CEUs for THW Renewal?

Yes! We host a monthly Learning Lab on different topics over Zoom. These are also recorded so you can go back and watch any of the courses you may have missed. This will equal 12 credit hours by the end of 2026! Watch the video, complete the quiz, fill out the evaluation, and you will receive a certificate of completion. Login to the Membership Portal to find the Learning Lab courses.

I need help developing my personal business practice. Can you help with that?

Yes! MotherTree Birth offers a Doula Business Incubator course for just this reason. Another great option is to join us during the Doula Mentor Hour and ask questions to your fellow community members in the GroupMe.
